ABOUT OUR HEALING TEAS

Drinking our HEALING TEAS can have both short-term and long-term health benefits.  Here at The Sistahood AU we stock 3 herbal teas and 3 standard teas.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HERBAL AND STANDARD TEA

Herbal teas or tisanes, are entirely caffeine free and are not made using any leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Instead, these herbal blends are made using spices, flowers and leaves of a variety of other plants including fruits and herbs.

Our herbal tea range includes: Heal, Crystal and Zzz.

Our caffeinated range includes: Balance, Spiced and Le Grey.

Our teas can be consumed both hot and cold and make a particularly refreshing Summertime drink.

HOW TEA DRINKING PROMOTES OVERALL HEALTH

If you are looking to boost and support your health naturally, it is well-known within the health community the world over, that “drinking tea is the most favourable choice when it comes to beverages”.  Unlike coffee and standard teas, most herbal teas are caffeine-free. Our teas are choc-full of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that vary depending on the blend you choose.

Some of the typical wellness benefits derived from drinking tea blends include improvements to the immune and digestive systems of the body, boosts to brain cognition, reduction of stress and promotes relaxation, improves sleep quality and are anti-ageing. Some research also shows anti-cancer effects and benefits for people with type 2 diabetes.

Here are the top health benefits from our range of teas.

  1. OUR TEAS HELP BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

All our teas are high in antioxidants and vitamins. Our HEAL tea is particularly potent with Vitamin C and antibacterial properties to aid with cold and flu symptoms. It is also high in Vitamins A and E to help wound healing and delay the ageing process. Many people recognise the positive effects of tea drinking when it comes to immunity. It’s no surprise that is a popular choice to offer a piping hot cuppa when we are feeling under the weather.

Our SPICED blend is derived from Indian Ayurvedic medicine to help boost the immune system during and after illnesses, largely in part because it offers anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. The medicinal properties of our teas mean you can kiss your cold or flu away sooner.

     2. OUR TEAS IMPROVE BRAIN FUNCTION

By drinking our tea blends regularly, you can help improve brain function.

According to Nutritionist and wellness coach Sheryl Salis  "Tea has caffeine and L-theanine that increases alertness and focus of the brain. It helps reduce cognitive decline and prevent conditions such as Alzheimer's disease.”

Our LE GREY blend contains black tea which is high in L-theanine & caffeine. This amino acid increases alpha activity in the brain, which can help improve focus and alertness.

Our SPICED blend also contains caffeine with the added benefit of ginger root. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger root tea means fewer headaches since it inhibits the chemical prostaglandin, which can cause headaches and migraines. Ginger root tea increases blood flow to the brain resulting in better focus and natural antioxidants protect brain health by reducing free radicals.

     3. OUR TEAS HELP REDUCE STRESS AND AID SLEEP

Tea is popularly known for its calming effects and has been used for centuries as the focal point of social events and unwinding after a long day. In the modern world, pressure and stress are often dealt with by taking medication, but the side effects of these medicines can be worse than the stress itself.

Instead, think about using herbal tea to relax and rejuvenate.  It can be a safer and more natural alternative to prescription medicines and can help with stress and anxiety. (Always check with your Doctor before replacing ANY medication).

The relaxing properties of teas can also aid in sleep disorders such as insomnia or restless sleep. Millions of people have a hard time getting to sleep at night whether it's because they deal with a sleep disorder, are sick or simply can't wind down at the end of the day.

Our ZZZ blend is specifically designed to help produce a calming effect and reduce stress thereby helping you unwind and prepare for a good night’s sleep. It contains Spearmint, Chamomile, Rose Petals, Lemongrass and Lavender.

Chamomile is a favourite in the health world, known to help soothe and calm. A study by research scientists at the University of Pennsylvania found it could help in treating generalized anxiety disorder (1). It's also a popular sleep aid and is the perfect bedtime tea.

The addition of spearmint has proven particularly beneficial for women with hormone imbalances: those going through puberty, menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome etc… as well as those suffering from digestive upsets and memory impairment.

     4.  OUR TEAS ARE ANTI-AGEING

Our CRYSTAL blend is high in antioxidants (2) to assist in circulation to eyes, collagen for skin elasticity and promotes healthy hair. It removes free-radicals from the body and gives you clear, vibrant skin. It contains elastin and collagen, which increases the elasticity of the skin, heal wounds quickly and prevents  premature ageing. It contains Organic Butterfly Pea, Lemongrass and Pandan Leaf

    5.  OUR TEAS HELP PREVENT CHRONIC DISEASES

Our teas are high in antioxidants, which work to eliminate free radicals throughout the body and prevent oxidative stress. Our BALANCE blend is particularly rich in  polyphenols, which studies have shown result in a lower likelihood of cancer. Teas are often used in Asia to combat or prevent chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Studies point to the polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins that are present in herbal teas as the reasons for positive health benefits. Polyphenols work to widen the arteries, which can lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels and prevent blood clots. Our CRYSTAL, BALANCE, HEAL AND ZZZ Blends have antioxidants that have been shown to prevent brain deterioration and prevent osteoporosis (3).

     6. OUR TEAS IMPROVE YOUR GUT HEALTH

Tea is beneficial for your digestive system because it can absorb gas, improve blood flow to the entire digestive tract and eliminate free radicals that can cause an upset stomach and indigestion. Herbal teas have phenols that can strengthen both stomach muscles and the muscles in your esophagus, which can reduce acid reflux and heartburn symptoms (4). Teas also enable your digestive tract to more easily absorb nutrients.

Our BALANCE blend is particularly formulated to help with digestive issues and balance the gut flora. This aids in bloating & digestive issues while increasing energy levels and immunity.

Our SPICED blend with ginger root contains the phenols gingerol and shogaol that help stimulate digestive juices such as saliva that help your body break down food (5). Ginger tea is popularly used to treat nausea from motion sickness and morning sickness since it interferes with serotonin receptors, which send the message to the brain that makes you feel like vomiting.  SPICED also contains the spices cardamom and cinnamon that have been proven to help improve digestion. To aid in digestion, drink this tea before a meal or a small cup during your meal. For nausea, you can drink it beforehand to prevent symptoms or once you start feeling queasy.

Our ZZZ blend with chamomile can also soothe your stomach, relieve cramps and alleviate symptoms of heartburn.

     7.  OUR TEAS ARE CALORIE FREE & CAN AID IN WEIGHT-LOSS

Our teas are a better-tasting alternative to water while still being calorie-free. While studies on the direct effects of tea on weight loss are ongoing, tea can be a tasty replacement for plain old water throughout the day. Keep in mind that while tea itself is calorie-free, adding extras such as sugar or honey can up the calories.
